EECP Therapy

EECP — Enhanced External Counterpulsation — is offered at Cherian Ashram as a non-invasive therapy option for patients under the care of our physicians, with a focus on supporting cardiac health.

As this is a physician-directed therapy, our medical team will assess your suitability for EECP as part of a wider treatment plan, taking your full cardiac and medical history into account.

How EECP Works

During an EECP session, inflatable cuffs are placed around the patient’s calves, thighs and lower body. These cuffs inflate and deflate in coordination with the heartbeat, creating a sequence of pressure changes that supports blood flow during the cardiac cycle.

The treatment is performed while the patient rests comfortably, with the therapy delivered through specialised equipment under clinical supervision.

Personalised Treatment Planning

EECP is not suitable for everyone. Before treatment begins, our physicians review the patient’s medical history, cardiovascular condition, medications and other relevant factors. This assessment helps determine whether EECP is an appropriate option within the individual’s overall care plan.

Supervised Sessions

Treatment sessions are carried out under the supervision of trained clinical personnel. The patient’s response and comfort can be monitored throughout the session, allowing the team to provide appropriate support during the course of therapy.

Part of Comprehensive Cardiac Care

At Cherian Ashram, EECP is considered within the broader context of a patient’s health rather than as a standalone intervention. Where appropriate, it may be accompanied by medical management, nutritional guidance and lifestyle recommendations based on the patient’s individual needs.

Who May Be Considered

Patients with certain cardiovascular conditions may be evaluated for EECP when conventional treatment approaches have not provided the desired results or when their physician considers the therapy appropriate. A detailed medical assessment is required before treatment is recommended.

EECP should be undertaken only following evaluation and guidance from a qualified physician.
